MOSCOW — A University of Idaho student from Post Falls is in critical condition this morning after a bicycle accident on the Moscow campus on Wednesday.

Jayson Coic, 20, a junior, is being treated at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after being airlifted from Gritman Medical Center in Moscow.

According to Moscow Police, Coic was riding east on Pullman Road around 8:20 a.m. when he attempted to turn right onto Peterson Road and went off the roadway, striking the university's brick entryway sign.

Coic was not wearing a helmet, suffered serious head injuries and was knocked unconscious, according to police.

He was transported to Gritman by the Moscow Volunteer Ambulance Service before being airlifted to Spokane.

A witness told police that it appeared Coic was riding too fast to make the turn safely.
