PREP SOFTBALL: Lake City sweeps; showdown with Cd'A next

COEUR d'ALENE - JaeCie Wilson went 5 for 6 with six runs scored and three RBIs as the Lake City Timberwolves swept the visiting Lewiston Bengals 13-0 and 10-5 in 5A Inland Empire League softball Saturday.

Brittany Gay had two hits and drove in four runs in the opener for Lake City (11-2, 6-0), and Haley Loffer had two hits, three RBIs and two runs.

Hannah Nelson homered in the second game for Lake City. Ally Dement went 3 for 3 with four RBIs, and Bailey Cavanagh was 3 for 4.

"It was a great start to the doubleheader in the first game," Lake City coach Jesse Lenz said. "The girls came out ready to play and hit the ball really well, and we played good defense. Second game, Lewiston jumped on us early and you have to give them credit for that. I liked how the girls battled all day no matter what the situation. Ally Dement and Bailey Cavanaugh had great days at the plate for us, and overall it was a good team win. We are excited for the opportunity to face Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday."

Lewiston is 7-8, 0-6.

Lake City travels to Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.

RATHDRUM - Kari Prockish hit a walk-off single in the first game, then scored the winning run in the second game as the Hawks swept the Bears in 4A Inland Empire League play at Lakeland High School.

"We just kept playing until the end and stuck with it," Lakeland coach Colleen Bevacqua said. "Moscow's a tough team and we'll have to get ready for them again on Thursday."

Sam O'Meara hit a 3-run home run in the sixth inning of the first game for Lakeland (3-12, 3-1 4A IEL), which travels to Medical Lake on Monday. Moscow is 0-4 4A IEL.

Shayna Woolley had three RBIs in the second game for Lakeland.

SPIRIT LAKE - Brittany Hibdon struck out nine in the first game and Shelby Salois struck out nine in the second, leading the Tigers to a sweep of the Badgers in Intermountain League play.

"Brittany did a great job of throwing strikes and challenging their hitters," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "Same with Shelby. She threw a lot of strikes and let the defense play behind her."

Shelby Starr went 3 for 4 with four RBIs in the second game for Timberlake (6-8, 5-0 IML), which hosts Kellogg on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

ST. MARIES - Paige Sines scored three runs in the first game and drove in four in the second, leading the Lumberjacks to a sweep of the Tigers in Central Idaho League play.

Jaycee McQueen struck out six and Kelsey Auer scored four runs in the opener for St. Maries (8-2, 6-0 CIL), which finished the game with six earned runs, taking advantage of nine Kendrick errors.

Kaylene Peet, CJ Scott and Kari Ghramm drove in three runs each in the second for St. Maries, which faces Grangeville in a makeup game at Airport Park in Lewiston on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

"It was one of those days where we did what we had to do to get a win," St. Maries coach Todd Bitterman said. "We tried to do some different things in the second game, expand the strike zone and treat everything like a two- strike pitch."
