SERVANTS: 'Public' isn't a dirty word

| April 3, 2015 9:00 PM

In my eight years in the Navy as a public servant and 20 years as a civilian working for the Army I met some great, hardworking people providing essential services. People who generalize negatively about all government workers and all governments are demonstrating a level of ignorance that is insulting and irresponsible. If we were to implement the solutions that those people come up with the government would spend double what it spends now “of our hard earned dollars.”

I salute postal workers, Social Security employees and DMV people for working hard, getting results and making the most of those dollars. If a government office has limited hours it is likely because of a budget cut, not because the workers are lazy. And whenever there is a budget cut those employees usually end up working even harder than usual.

Instead of complaining and haphazardly blaming, check to see if your government representatives had anything to do with limiting those agencies.
