Fund set up for new mother with brain hemorrhage

Relatives are rallying around a young Hayden family dealing with an unexpected health crisis.

Kiahanna Vineyard Shirley, 24, was in the seventh month of pregnancy on March 20 when she experienced a sudden, severe headache. She was diagnosed with an arteriovenous malformation, with a brain-bleed. Kihanna was flown to Harborview Medical Center where an emergency cesarean section was performed. The baby - Kiahanna and her husband Dave's second child - was then transferred to the University of Washington Medical Center. Relatives said the baby, Hallie Jean, is doing well.

Kiahanna remains at Harborview where physicians are working to stabilize the bleeding in her brain so they can perform a craniotomy and repair the arteries.

Family members have set up a fund to help the couple pay for medical expenses and other costs incurred while they are away from home in Seattle. Donations can be made at any Inland Northwest Bank to The Shirley Family Fund.
