HAYDEN LAKE - Members of Northern Lakes Fire District were called into action Thursday night after the engine of a pickup truck exploded.

According to Jim Lyon, district spokesman, eight firefighters responded to a residential area near east Miles Avenue and Morris Road at 7:21 p.m. When the firefighters arrived, the vehicle, which was loaded with "large wood rounds," was fully engulfed.

"It was heavily involved under the cab area of the truck," Lyon said. "That fire spread to some of the timber in the bed. But it didn't consume the whole truck."

The firefighters, as well as members of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, were at the scene until 10:06 p.m., Lyon said.

No one was injured in the fire and Lyon added that the cause of the engine explosion is undetermined.

"It's very tough to determine the cause of an engine fire," Lyon said. "Especially in the middle of the night."
