LEWISTON (AP) - The Nez Perce Tribe in North Idaho plans to ask members how to spend a $1 million federal grant intended to reduce obesity, tobacco use and poor nutrition.

The money from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services makes $200,000 available per year for five years.

Nez Perce Tribe Education Manager Joyce McFarland told the Lewiston Tribune in a story on Friday that some of the grant money will be used to pay for a position in the tribe's Students for Success program.

The program works to improve the health of students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade.

McFarland said a community assessment process will help tribal leaders determine priorities.
