Radical Reels 2014 tour hits Cd'A

| September 25, 2014 9:00 PM

The best high adrenaline films from the Banff Mountain Film Festival are coming to Coeur d'Alene Friday night, Oct. 3, at the Kroc Center.

Showtime is set for 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will go to support the Independence Ski Team's program for youth in the Sandpoint community.

Tickets are $14 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets are located in Coeur d'Alene at Zip's drive-in on Sherman Avenue, Vertical Earth and the Camera Corral. In Hayden, tickets are located at Zip's drive-in.

Any tickets left will be sold at the Kroc Center theater box office the night of the show starting at 6 p.m.

Now in its third year in Coeur d'Alene, there is no better way to get stoked about skiing, biking, riding or paddling than by seeing the 2014 edition of the Radical Reels Tour. Promoters promise jaw-dropping bike jumps, nail-biting kayak drops and mind-blowing powder snow.

This year's 11 films will take viewers to Austria, where the focus is on the best female freestyle skiers in the film "Nine Queens - Shades of Winter" as well as Espen Fadnes, World Wingsuit Champion and his views in Norway on the future of wingsuiting.

Climbing films? Absolutely, with Pamela Shanti Pack, who is tough as nails and is the meanest crack climbing thug viewers will ever meet, the promoters said.

Or the climbing film "Sensei," which picked up the Radical Reels Night People's Choice Award in Banff, Alberta, Canada.

Paddling and adventure are partners in the film "Walled In" where we accompany Ben Stookesberry on the sketchiest lines on a river.

Held each fall, the Banff Mountain Film Festival has included the Radical Reels night which is a special screening of the wildest high-adrenaline films entered in the Banff Mountain Film Festival.

With so many action films being submitted to the film festival each year that they could not fit into the regular World Tour this resulted in the creation of the hugely successful Radical Reels evening presentation and road tour.

That first year was a kudos to North Idaho audiences, as the Banff Centre ran a pilot program with Sandpoint chosen as one of the six sites worldwide that ran the initial Radical Reels program.

Radical Reels film lineup includes "Arrival" on biking; "Be The Trail" on biking; "Beyond the Drop" on kayaking; "Dream Lines IV" on wingsuit flyers in France and Switzerland; "Ghost Town" on skiing and history; "Nine Queens - Shades of Winter" on skiing; "Off-Width Outlaw" on climbing; "Outlines" on wingsuiting; "The Sensei" on climbing; "Supervention" on skiing; and "Walled In" on paddling.
