PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP: Rapoport returns, leads Bulldogs past Badgers

| September 14, 2014 9:00 PM

* BOYS

SANDPOINT - Junior midfielder Nick Rapoport wasted little time making his presence known in his first game back from injury, dishing out two assists to help lead Sandpoint to a 2-0 shutout of Bonners Ferry in nonleague boys soccer on Saturday night under the lights of War Memorial Field.

Amos Crossingham, who like Rapoport also just returned from injury, got the Bulldogs (2-4) on the board in the 17th minute, and Kyle Stanley added his fourth goal of the year early in the second half for insurance, and the Bulldogs controlled the action from start to finish.

"I definitely liked our possession, we moved the ball around well and created chances," said Bulldogs head coach Adam Tajan, praising the play of Badger goalie Caleb Blackmore in defeat. "Bonners comes into town with a lot of heart and hustle. Hopefully this will be something we can build off. It's nice to get some of these injured guys back."

Kyle Hertel picked up his first shutout of the season in goal, as the Bulldogs back four was a wall, allowing just one shot on goal.

Sandpoint kicks off the games that really matter on Tuesday, when the Bulldogs host Lakeland in a 4A Inland Empire League opener.
