ART: Under the rainbow

| September 14, 2014 9:00 PM

The rainbow sculpture is the worst piece of sculpture in Coeur d’Alene. I think since the arts commission picked this piece we need to replace the arts commission with new people. Why they picked this sculpture when there is such rich history in this area that a piece of sculpture representing the area would have fit in better. Now the artist wants to charge the people of Coeur d’Alene more money to correct his sculpture is outrageous. If he represented it one way but built it a different way then he should be responsible for any cost to fix it.

I find it interesting that the artist says he did not know there would be high output street lights in a downtown area around the sculpture and would drown out his lighted wires. Maybe he should have told the arts commission that his art needed to be in a totally dark area when he was presenting it to them.

Also an artist has to have thick skin for not everybody is going to like all of their work. I think the best thing would be to sell it to another city for whatever you can get for it. In fact you could probably get more for it from a city like Seattle. They would like a sculpture like this. On the other hand I personally like the daffodil sculpture at the Third Street garage entrance to the park. So the arts commission made a good choice at that end.
