ART: Let beauty speak for itself

| September 14, 2014 9:00 PM

An artist should never have to defend his work! After my routine Friday morning of reading the paper and sipping my coffee, this cover article hit a cord in me that left me so upset I was compelled to write this letter.

I am very passionate about all forms of art and am an avid artist myself. I’m an art follower and art history buff. I feel honored to have the opportunity to travel the world and witness the different forms of art and culture around our globe. This being said, I want everyone reading my letter to sit back and simply take in the beauty of this little town we live in. Why must we always complain about the change that is taking place? I am proud to be a resident of Coeur d’Alene and even more happy to admit I grew up here and left thinking I could find a more beautiful place until unsuccessful at my quest, I moved back!

The city has made a BOLD and wonderful decision to bring in unique, matchless pieces of art that stand out beyond other small towns. I encourage Meehan to take in the criticism and acknowledge it just as the McEuen project and many other innovators here have taken criticism only to prove eventually a very successful outcome that the whole community enjoys.

Talk is good! It stirs emotions, which is exactly what a successful imaginary artist is supposed to do! I want to thank our city for allowing this creative piece to stand at our gate of a mecca park downtown. Meehan I oblige, as I love his zeal for expressive, colorful and jovial talent that will stand the test of time through every season sun and snow in the heart of downtown Coeur d’Alene.
