Coeur d'Alene Sting Stars under-9 girls: The Sting Stars competed at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Stars lost to the Sting Spirit 5-0, the Spokane Foxes Mayhem 4-2, the Sting Reign 5-0 and the Spokane Foxes Chaos 4-1.

Sting U14 girls Tigres: The Sting won the gold division at the Pend Oreille Cup soccer tournament last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Sting beat the Flathead Force 5-0, as Sarah Swider and Georgina Simpson each scored twice. Chloe Teets scored once, and Swider had two assists.

The Sting lost 1-0 to Idaho Rush Nero, then beat Griffiths Grey 2-0. Sarah Swider scored on an penalty kick, then assisted on a goal by Chloe Teets. Emma Bartlett and Shae Zeimantz teamed for the shutout in goal.

In their final game, the Sting beat The Academy Idaho in a shootout following a scoreless tie in regulation and overtime. Chloe Teets, Sarah Swider, Kasidy Kirking and Georgina Simpson scored in the shootout for the Sting, and Emma Bartlett posted the shutout in goal.

Academy U12 girls: The Cads won three times by shutout, but finished second by one point at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Sting beat the Spokane Breakers Merritt 3-0. Sarah Hines scored twice, Morgan Rust once, and Kaylee Moate had two assists. Autumn Lambert posted the shutout in goal.

The Sting beat the Spokane Foxes Emerald 3-0. Kendall Pickford, Sophia Morlan and Kaylee Moate had goals, and Moate had an assist. Autumn Lambert had the shutout in goal.

The Sting beat the Washington East/Team Sky 4-0. Morgan Rust scored two goals, Sarah Hines and Emily Johnson one each. Johnson and Tressa Mullen each had assists, and Johnson and Autumn Lambert teamed in goal for the shutout.

Sting U11 girls Spirit: The Sting went 2-1-1 and finished second at the Pend Orielle Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Spirit defeated the Spokane Shadow Windham 4-0, with goals by Olivia Wyatt (2), Noel Duval and Amber Aittama. Danika Nowak had the shutout in goal.

The Spirit tied XIFAG2022 2-2, with goals scored by Molly Foster and Olivia Wyatt. The Spirit then beat the Sandpoint Strikers 3-1, with goals scored by Olivia Wyatt (2) and Amber Aittama.

In the title game, the Spirit lost to their sister team the Thorns 2-0.

The Academy Idaho U12 boys: The Cads finished third at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Cads beat the Sandpoint Strikers 11-0. Braden Ferreira, Ethan Lawson and Caden McLean each scored two goals, and Aydan Tweety, Devin Claflin (penalty kick), Brayson Harrington, Canyon Osborne and Aiden O'Halloran each scored once.

In the next game the Cads beat Kootenay from Canada 4-0. Ethan Lawson scored twice, and Aydan Tweety and Braden Ferreira (penalty kick) each scored once. Goalkeepers Caden McLean and Aiden vanMarle teamed for the shutout in both games.

The Cads lost 6-1 to the Spokane Pumas in their final game. Ethan Lawson scored the lone goal for the Cads.

Sting U11 boys United: The Sting placed first in the gold division of their age group at the Pend Oreille Cup in Sandpoint last weekend.

United defeated Sandpoint Strikers-Wolf 7-1, Spokane Breakers-Chester 2-0, and Sandpoint Strikers-Williams 7-1 to qualify for the championship against Sting Barcelona. Cooper Prohaska scored the lone goal in the 1-0 final and Bridger Stephens had nine saves.

In the tournament, Noah Janzen and Max Anderson had four goals and three assists apiece, Cooper Prohaska had three goals and one assist, Alex Reyes had two goals and two assists, and Bridger Stephens, Ashton Fredekind, Bryce Allred and Tyler Allred each scored once. Bridger Stephens had 16 saves, Tyler Allred five, Talon Mitchell three.

Sting U9 boys AC Milan: The Sting placed third in their age group at the Pend Oreille Cup in Sandpoint last weekend.

On Saturday, AC Milan defeated Sting Fiorentina 4-1 and the Sandpoint Strikers Eddy/Schmidt 3-2. On Sunday, AC Milan lost 3-2 to Flathead Force.

In the tournament, Brayden Ristic had five goals and two assists for the Sting, Zachary Anderson had two goals and two assists, and Tristen Mulkins scored two goal and had one assist. Braden Latscha had 17 saves in the tournament.

Sting U11 boys Barcelona: The Sting placed second in the gold bracket last weekend at the Pend Oreille Cup in Sandpoint.

The Sting defeated the Sandpoint Strikers FC (Williams) 4-0 on Friday. Brayden Bengtson scored two goals, Joseph Sarkis and Miles Jones one each. Walker Jump and Connor Norris had assists. Cole Jaworski and Nik Nowak teamed for the shutout in goal.

The Sting defeated the Sandpoint Strikers FC (Wolf) 6-1 on Saturday. Joseph Sarkis scored a hat trick and Connor Norris, Walker Jump and Tyler Gasper each scored once. Walker Jump had four assists, Miles Jones and Tyler Gasper one each.

The Sting beat the Spokane Breakers (Chester) Sunday morning 4-1. Kohrt Weber, Walker Jump, Brayden Bengston and Miles Jones each scored once.

In the championship match, the Sting lost 1-0 to the Sting Premier (United).

The Academy under-14 girls: The Academy finished second last weekend at the Pend Oreille Cup in Sandpoint.

On Saturday, the Cads tied the Missoula Strikers 2-2. Hannah Clarke and Ashley Neuberger each scored a goal for the Cads, and Marlee Lambert and Lauren Hoffeld each had an assist.

Later that day, the Cads beat the Nelson Selects 3-1. Lindsay Shaw, Cali Shipman and Janessa Ingram each scored a goal in the win, and Hannah Clarke, Aiden Jones and Isabella McAfee had assists.

On Sunday, the Cads beat SSC Shadow 5-0. Hannah Clarke and Aiden Jones each scored two goals, Havalah Scott one. Janessa Ingram had two assists, Breanna Torres one. Marlee Lambert and Preslee Allen teamed for the shutout in goal.

In the championship game, the Cads lost on penalty kicks to the Sting. Marlee Lambert earned the shutout in regulation.

Sting U11 girls Thorn: The Sting went 2-0-2 and won its age division title at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Sting beat the Sandpoint Strikers 1-0 in its opener, with a goal by Myah Rietze assisted by Taytum Curtis, Cooper Horton and Riley Scherr teamed for the shutout in goal.

The Sting tied the SSC Shadow 1-1 with a goal by Taytum Curtis, assisted by Myah Rietze.

The Sting beat the Sting Spirit 2-0 with a goal by Isabella Henkle assisted by Amy Corette, and a penalty kick made by Myah Rietze. Cooper Horton had six saves in earning the shutout.

The Sting played to a scoreless tie in its final game, with Cooper Horton making eight saves.

Sting U13 boys Liverpool: The Sting went 1-2 at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

On Saturday, the Sting lost 2-1 to Xifa. Josh Brisendine scored in the second half for the Sting, and Jacob Overoye had 21 saves.

Later that day, the Sting fell 5-1 to the Missoula Strikers. Ben Blakely scored in the first half for the Sting.

On Sunday, the Sting beat Keysa 6-1. Jackson Henkle scored a hat trick for the Sting, Josh Brisendine scored two goals, McKie Gregory one. Brisendine and Braden Jackson each had assists.

Sting U9 boys South Hampton went 1-1-1 at the Pend Orielle Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Sting tied the Sandpoint Strikers 2-2. Gunner Larson scored twice for the Sting.

The Sting beat Juventus 5-4. Gunner Larson scored a hat trick, and Stetson Gilbert and Ronan Sternberg each scored once.

In their final game, the Sting lost 6-1 to the FCC Shadow. Taylor Corbeill scored the lone Sting goal.

Sting U14 girls Tigres: The Sting competed in the recent River City Challenge and placed second in their division.

The Sting beat the FC Spokane Griffiths Gray 3-1 on goals from Elizabeth Lehosit, Lexi Medina and Charlotte Hennig, and assists from Chloe Butler and Kasidy Kirking.

The Sting tied the FC Spokane G01 Black 2-2. Lizzy Scarlett and Elizabeth Lehosit had goals, and Mandy Burke had an assist.

The Sting tied the Spokane Breakers G00 Shannon 1-1, with Erika Skindlov scoring the lone Sting goal.

The Sting lost to Moscow United on penalty kicks, following a scoreless tie in regulation.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL

Randle heads Rathdrum camp: Lenny Randle, who played 11 years in the major leagues, and Nick Pupo, an area baseball scout, are teaming up to run a camp through Pupo's business, Diamond Sports Performance, and the Rathdrum Parks and Recreation Department.

The camp is open to boys and girls ages 13-18. Young people will learn the importance of education in life as well as baseball/softball skills. Athletes of other sports are encouraged to attend, as exercises include speed-core drills which will enhance skills in any sport.

This program will run four consecutive Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. starting on Sept. 20 at Cooper Field in Rathdrum. Registration is being accepted at Rathdrum Parks and Recreation Department, 7851 Main Street in Rathdrum. The registration fee is $50 for 4 sessions. Registration deadline is Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. Late registration, at $60, will be accepted if space is available. Online registration is available at xpressrec@rathdrum.org.

Randle played for the Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, and he started his career with the Washington Senators which became the Rangers.

Pupo, a scout with Lenny Randle Baseball Academy, is owner of Diamond Sports Performance, a personal trainer specializing in core strength-training. Pupo was the Director of Sports Performance for Whitworth Physical Therapy which included former major leaguer Bump Wills, former WNBA star Stacy Clinesmith, and has worked with many former major league baseball players and trainers.

JUNIOR TACKLE

Seventh grade

Coeur d'Alene Jaguars 46, Coeur d'Alene Bucs 0: Jaguars quarterback Tyler Wiltz led the offense with 20 carries for 307 yards and accounted for four touchdowns, one a 50-yard pass to Todd Callaghan. Cade McKenzie had 8 carries for 45 yards. Wesley Sando had three interceptions, one returned 60 yards for a touchdowns. Thomas Schmidt had nine tackles, Nate Hayes eight, Ryan Rios six. Coby Pettyjohn also had an interception and Nate Hayes had 2 1/2 sacks.

SWIMMING

CAST at zone meet: Four Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team athletes attended the Western Zone Age Group meet recently in Federal Way, Wash., as part of the Inland Empire team. The meet drew 677 of the fastest 14 and younger swimmers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah, California, Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Hawaii. Inland Empire Swimming placed 9th out of the 17 teams.

Leading the way for CAST was Sarah Nicholls, who won the 100-meter breaststroke, setting an Inland Empire and a Western Zone meet record. That time qualifies her for Winter Nationals in December, the fastest USA Swimming short course meet. Sarah also placed third in the 200 breaststroke, qualifying for Junior Nationals in that event, and was the breaststroke legs for the fifth-place 200 medley relay and the sixth-place 400 medley relay.

Cole Curtis made finals in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, placing 14th and 13th place respectively. Both swims qualify him for the Senior Sectional meet next March. Cole also contributed legs on the third-place 200 medley relay, the fourth-place 400 medley relay, and seventh-place 400 freestyle relay.

Micah Hudlet made one final in the 100 breaststroke and made her first qualifying cut for Senior Sectionals in that race, placing 16th. She would later make her Senior cut in the 200 breaststroke as well. Finally, Chang He placed as high as 18th individually, but made the most contributions on relays. Chang was instrumental in the 200 medley relay (third place), 400 medley relay (fourth), 200 freestyle relay (eighth) and 400 free relay (seventh).
