Coeur d'Alene Chamber plans jobs summit on Oct. 8
The Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce is hosting a summit on creating new jobs and economic development strategies. The discussion will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at the Best Western Plus Coeur d'Alene Inn.
Jeff Sayer, director of the Idaho Department of Commerce, will be the featured speaker. Sayer will discuss Accelerate Idaho, Talent Pipelines and the new State Tax Reimbursement Incentives. Attendees will also hear from Steve Griffitts about new strategic initiatives for Jobs Plus, Inc.

Local BLM manager named
Linda Clark has been named the new district manager for the Bureau of Land Management's Coeur d'Alene District.
Clark, who will start on Oct. 6, has led the Border Field Office in the neighboring Spokane District for the past several years.
Clark has worked as an archaeologist for the BLM, National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service. She has served in multiple leadership roles with the agencies.
Clark and her husband, Steve, have two daughters and reside in Coeur d'Alene.
Gutterud to serve as associate pastor at Peace Lutheran
Gail Gutterud will serve as an associate pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Post Falls.
Gutterud, who has served in ministry for several years, recently completed seminary at 71 years old.
Her ordination is slated on Reformation Day on Oct. 31. The church is at 8134 N. Meyer Road.
Coffee stand to say 'thanks'
The owners of Best Buzz Espresso, 1289 E. Best Ave., Coeur d'Alene, will show their gratitude for their patrons' support for the last seven years with a customer appreciation event.
From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, they will be offering their customers free coffee, hot dogs and prizes.
Hand surgeon Kuhlman-Woodjoins Lyman Knee Clinic
Dr. Kate Kuhlman-Wood, a fellowship-trained hand, plastic and reconstructive surgeon has moved to Coeur d'Alene from Houston, Texas to partner with knee specialist Dr. Jeffrey Lyman of The Lyman Knee Clinic.
As a hand specialist, Kuhlman-Wood adds to the subspecialty orthopedic care the clinic provides.
Kuhlman-Wood treats several types of hand, wrist and forearm conditions and injuries, including tendon injuries, fractures, general arthritic conditions of the hand, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, nerve injuries and compressions such as carpal tunnel, and distal radius fractures in the forearm.
In addition, Kuhlman-Wood is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with expertise in body procedures such as breast augmentation, body contouring and post-bariatric reconstruction. She also performs post-Mohs reconstruction of wounds resulting from a microscopically directed surgery for skin cancer resection.
She was born in Chewelah, Wash., and grew up in Otis Orchards. She earned a bachelor's degree in nursing in Spokane through Washington State University and worked as a registered nurse at Sacred Heart and Valley Hospital. After a few medical trips to places such as India and Moldova, she decided to become a surgeon.
She attended medical school at Quillen College of Medicine in Tennessee and completed a plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the University of Washington. Following her residency, she moved to Houston, Texas to complete a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at Baylor College of Medicine's Department of Orthopedic Surgery. There, she was trained in arthritic conditions and traumatic injuries of the hand, wrist and forearm.
Having been away for 15 years, Kuhlman-Wood missed the Inland Northwest and the familiarity of the culture in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene. She and her husband, A. Mitchell Wood, also wanted to raise their young daughter in a place "fruitful for her development." They arrived in Coeur d'Alene in August.
Kuhlman-Wood is now seeing patients at The Lyman Knee Clinic's Riverstone location, 1875 N. Lakewood Drive No. 200.
