Artists ready to 'Emerge'

| September 10, 2014 9:00 PM

Coeur d'Alene's historic Wiggett Building will breathe with life again Friday as local artists and bands gather to celebrate their talents for the first Emerge show.

The free public event will feature more than 25 artists and 125 pieces of work in a variety of media from 5 p.m. to midnight.

Local bands and musicians - including the Frantz Brothers, Morgan Dodge and a belly dance troupe - will perform throughout the night.

Emerge is the first event to grace the Wiggett Building since 2006 when the Wiggett Antique Marketplace moved. The building at Fourth Street and Lakeside Avenue in downtown Coeur d'Alene was built in 1928 for retailer Montgomery Ward. It served as the antique marketplace for 18 years.

Beer and wine will be available for purchase at the Emerge show. All proceeds will support Art on the Edge, a nonprofit art program provided by St. Vincent de Paul for community youth.

Art on the Edge offers after-school art classes, public art and festivals. It provides a creative environment for all youth, using art as a tool for learning, problem solving, goal setting, community values and increasing self-esteem.

The public is invited to this free celebration of local arts and the reawakening of a downtown landmark.
