BUD: This one's for you

| September 7, 2014 9:00 PM

Enclosed is an article I came across while surfing the Internet [“A National Treasure resides among us,” by Dan Brockway Sr., published in The Press Aug. 31, 2012.] To my surprise and delight it refers to an old friend from the distant past.

I served with Mr. Bud Kirchoff as an elected member of the Du Page County Board (Illinois) for a number of years. He was also a fellow York Township precinct committeeman.

My name at that time was Lenore “Leni” Landry Davenport.

Bud, his wife, Audrey, and I were among the founding members of a county Republican organization called “TAPROOT” — “Traditions and Principles Republicans Often Overlook Today.”

We here in the area remember Bud and Audrey with much fondness and admiration — especially the TAPROOT members who are still with us. I told some of them I would write to your newspaper to see if Bud is still a resident in your area. Any information would be so much appreciated. If he is still residing in Coeur d’Alene, you may forward this letter to him if you so choose.

This was a wonderful article about a wonderful man. He is our hero!

Thank you very much.
