Post Falls opens with pair of victories
PRIEST RIVER - Post Falls opened its season on two successful notes on Thursday in nonleague play, beating Priest River in three games and Lakeland in four.
The Trojans played their season opener by beating the Spartans, 25-15, 25-20, 25-22.
Senior outside hitter Amanda Westlake led Post Falls with seven kills, while Brooke Bowers had five kills. Lydea Schneider had 16 assists and Cassidy Jackson had two blocks.
"That was the first match of the season," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "It was kind of nice to get onto the floor and see what we're made of. I thought we passed and dug pretty well in that (match)."
The Trojans had a slightly tougher time in the second match, beating Lakeland, 25-15, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19.
"I think our kids are really resillient, which is good," Hanna said. "I feel like we played steady all night long."
Allison Munday led the Post Falls attack with nine kills, followed by Amanda Westlake with eight. Schneider had 26 assists, Jackson had three blocks, Andra Beck finished with six aces and Bowers had seven digs.
For Lakeland, Kaidan Kelsey had eight kills and six blocks, Haley Rotchford had five kills and two blocks, and Brooklynn Bunch had five aces.
"Our front row played really well; we were just a little inconsistent with the passing coming out of the gate," Lakeland coach Kylee Garitone said.
Lakeland came back in its second match and beat Priest River in five games. Kelsey had nine kills, Sierra Mayberry had six kills and six aces, Lexi Black had five kills and Bunch had 27 assists.
"We really became consistent with our passing," Garitone said. "We did a nice job moving the ball around offensively, and we continued to be really scrappy tonight."
Post Falls plays at the Mariner Invitational on Saturday in Everett, Wash.
Lakeland (1-3) plays at Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

Sandpoint
SANDPOINT - Megan Ramseyer totaled 23 kills and six aces, leading Coeur d'Alene to a 25-12, 25-20, 26-24 win over Sandpoint in nonleague volleyball Thursday night at Les Rogers Court.
Ali Williams posted 21 assists, Missy Huddleston six kills and nine digs, and Sydney Bybee three blocks for the Vikings (4-0), who don't have one senior on their roster.
"Sandpoint has nine seniors, and they play experienced. Even though we won in three, it exposed our inexperience from our young kids," Vikings coach Dee Pottenger said. "Megan hit well and Missy played great defense."
Taylor Martin led the Bulldogs (1-1) with six kills, seven digs and three aces, Amy Shepard added eight kills and Laney Search had nine digs.
Coeur d'Alene plays host to Lakeland on Tuesday.

MOSCOW - Brittany Gay had 13 kills and seven digs, and Natalie Taylor added 11 kills and nine digs, as the visiting Timberwolves beat the Bears 25-13, 25-20, 25-19 in nonleague play at Bear Den.
CC Cates had 24 assists, Nina Carlson three blocks for Lake City (1-1), which travels to Central Valley on Tuesday.

Clark Fork
COEUR d'ALENE - After bouncing back strong to win the third game on Thursday, Coeur d'Alene Charter defeated Clark Fork in nonleague action, 25-10, 18-25, 25-7, 25-11, at Holy Family Catholic School.
"The girls played strong the whole way through and they did a very good job," Panthers coach Tera Armstrong said. "In the third game they wanted to come out and play their game. They pulled themselves out of it and they wanted to take that game."
Outside hitter Stephanie Kociela led the offensive attack with nine kills for Charter (3-0). Middle blocker Anna Verhaeghe added seven kills and three blocks. Setter Jackie Callihan finished with 16 assists and outside hitter Kallie Garn had 15 digs. Freshman Madi Aittama put away 10 aces.
For Clark Fork (2-1), Leslie Kiebert had seven kills. Alison Warner finished with 14 assists, and Emily Garman finished with 12 digs and five aces.
Coeur d'Alene Charter plays Tuesday at Wallace.

PLUMMER - Kari Ghramm had 10 kills and Kelsey Auer had 23 assists as the visiting Lumberjacks (2-0) defeated the Knights in nonleague play, 25-12, 25-16, 25-21.
Kristen Womack and Catherine Flach had five kills each for St. Maries (2-0), which competes at the Lewiston Invitational on Saturday.
"We're getting better each time we take the court," said St. Maries coach Amy Scheer, who was an assistant at Lakeside for one season. "We've been working on smoothing out our offense. We're getting there."
Cailyn Dohrman had three kills and five blocks for Lakeside (0-2). Talia Hendrickx had three aces, 10 digs and 10 assists. Lillian Rhea had four blocks and four digs, Jordyn Nomee five digs for Lakeside, which hosts Liberty on Tuesday.
