• Burn bans lifted in Kootenai County

Since fire danger has lessened with the recent rains, the Kootenai County fire chiefs have lifted the summer burn ban.

Burn permits for yard debris and burn barrels - if such burning is allowed in your location - may be obtained either at burnpermits.idaho.gov or through your fire department. Logging slash is still being restricted until the area receives more rain.

Debris burning is one of our most frequent causes of escaped fire. All burns must be attended at all times. It is also a good idea to have a garden hose available to keep the fire in check.

The fire danger in the area has decreased to moderate.

As a result, the Potlatch Corp. also announced that the campfire ban it issued Aug. 6 has been lifted on its properties in North Idaho.

• Road work to slow Spokane airport traffic

SPOKANE - If you're headed to the Spokane International Airport between today and Tuesday morning, allow yourself some extra time for road construction.

With the exception of Sunday, road and lane closures are planned along U.S. 2 and Sunset Highway near the airport.

The most intense work will be scheduled during hours when traffic counts are lowest.

Drivers should expect lane restrictions, slower traffic and congestion in the vicinity of the airport between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Detours will direct drivers to and from the airport.
