| September 3, 2014 9:00 PM

The Suicide Prevention Action Network of Idaho will mark National Suicide Prevention Week in Coeur d'Alene with a walk designed to shine a light on the issue while bringing comfort to those who have lost loved ones to suicide.

The 3.8-mile walk will take place Saturday, Sept. 13, along the Centennial Trail overlooking Lake Coeur d'Alene.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the parking lot at O'Shay's, 313 E. Coeur d'Alene Lake Drive.

The walk begins at 10 a.m., and it is free.

Those who donate $10 will receive a free T-shirt, and according to organizers: "the peace of mind that you have contributed to a very important cause that affects many people in North Idaho."

SPAN Idaho is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All money raised in North Idaho stays in North Idaho.

Proceeds from past SPAN walks have been used to bring a leading expert on suicide to Coeur d'Alene to train mental health professionals, school counselors and clergy on how to assess a person possibly contemplating suicide.

Funds are also used to help provide a local support group for those who have lost loved ones to suicide. For more information contact Karen Petit, (208) 772-2353.
