Ramseyer leads Vikings past Lake City

COEUR d'ALENE - Megan Ramseyer had 17 kills, 16 assists and 13 digs as the Coeur d'Alene Vikings defeated the Lake City Timberwolves 25-23, 25-15, 25-21 on Tuesday night in the 5A Inland Empire League opener for both teams.

Missy Huddleston had 13 kills and two aces for Coeur d'Alene (3-0). Ali Williams had 20 assists, Sydney Bybee two blocks, and Maura Donovan and Zoe Burgess each had two aces.

"Our serving was effective," Coeur d'Alene coach Dee Pottenger said. "I like where our composure is this early in the season."

Natalie Taylor had 10 kills and 10 digs for Lake City in its season opener. Brittany Gay had eight kills, 11 assists and five blocks, C.C. Cates 11 assists and nine digs, Alisa Ricciardi eight digs.

On Thursday, Coeur d'Alene travels to Sandpoint, and Lake City visits Moscow.

Lakeland

RATHDRUM - Hailey Tierney had six digs for the Hawks in a 25-23, 25-9, 25-19 loss to the Bulldogs in the 4A Inland Empire League opener for both teams at Hawk Court.

Alyson Lenon had three aces and three kills for Lakeland (0-2), which travels to Priest River for a tri-match with the Spartans and Post Falls.

Timberlake

ST. MARIES - Kari Ghramm had 17 kills and 11 digs to lead the Lumberjacks past the Tigers 15-25, 25-13, 7-25, 25-22, 15-9 in a nonleague match.

"For our first game out, and first home game, it took us a while to get going," St. Maries coach Amy Scheer said. "The girls started to play really well in the fourth game. It was definitely a nail-biter for sure, but Kari had an amazing game all around the court."

Kelsey Auer had 40 assists and Catherine Flach had five blocks for St. Maries (1-0), who won in Scheer's debut as head coach.

Jami Lickfold had six kills and 13 digs for Timberlake (0-2). Chantelle Lickfold had six blocks, Courtney Eaton 13 assists, and Shelbee Hester and Colleen Cronnelly had three aces each.

St. Maries travels to Plummer to play Lakeside on Thursday. Timberlake returns to action next Tuesday at Riverside.

Lakeside

PLUMMER - Anna Verhaeghe had six kills and Stephanie Kociela had eight digs as Panthers survived a thriller of a deciding set to beat the Knights 22-25, 25-11, 17-25, 25-20, 16-14 in nonleague play.

Maddi Aittama had nine aces, Soersha Lewis three blocks and Jackie Callahan 14 assists for Coeur d'Alene Charter (2-0).

"The girls fought hard," Coeur d'Alene coach Tera Armstrong said. "Lakeside always does really well defensively and it was an intense game tonight."

"They were consistent, they hit pretty well, and they did a good job reading our defense," Lakeside co-coach Karyn Stockdale said of the Panthers.

For Lakeside, in its season opener, Talia Hendrickx had 26 assists and four aces, Cailyn Dohrman had six kills, four blocks and two aces, Lilian Rhea had four kills, four blocks and four aces, and Jordyn Nomee had six kills.

"We were rusty in some areas, and now we know what we have to work on," Stockdale said. "The girls did a lot of things right."

On Thursday, Coeur d'Alene Charter plays host to Clark Fork, and Lakeside is home vs. St. Maries.
