Coeur d'Alene to offer coed, women's hoops league

The Coeur d'Alene Recreation Department is offering a coed and women's basketball league.

Coed teams must have a minimum of two females on the court at all times. Team entry deadline is Nov. 24 and cost is $385.

Teams must provide their own uniforms or T-shirts, and games will be played on Wednesday or Fridays.

Games will begin the week of Dec. 8 and teams will play seven games.

Minimum age is 16.

Chiefs' Yamamoto added to Team USA U-17 team

SPOKANE - Spokane Chiefs forward Kailer Yamamoto has been added to the USA national under-17 team that will represent the USA at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in Sarnia, Ont.

The tournament begins Sunday and runs through Saturday.

Yamamoto, a rookie forward from Spokane, has two goals and six assists in 12 games for the Chiefs this season.

The 24-game tournament will feature eight teams: Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and three from Canada. Team USA will compete in Group B with Canada Red, Slovakia and Sweden, and face Sweden on Sunday to open the tournament.

Yamamoto is expected to rejoin the Chiefs on Nov. 11, when they host Kelowna at the Spokane Arena.

Sun Belt reprimands Arkansas State, UL Lafayette

NEW ORLEANS - The Sun Belt Conference announced findings from a review of the Oct. 21 game between Lousiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State and both teams, along with five student-athletes, one assistant coach and one member of the football team support personnel have been reprimanded for unsportsmanlike conduct. Additionally, the officiating crew from the game will be suspended for an upcoming game.

In total, eight unsportsmanlike penalties were called during the game and two players were ejected.

The ejected players were both from Arkansas State - Andrew Tryon, for committing two personal fouls that per NCAA rules resulted in an automatic disqualification, and Xavier Woodson, for spitting on an opposing player.

For Louisiana-Lafayette, Corey Trim is being reprimanded for multiple acts of unsportsmanlike conduct - which included a play that was missed by the officials in which he threw a punch at an Arkansas State player. Additionally, assistant coach Mitch Rodrigue and strength coach Rusty Whitt have been reprimanded for unsportsmanlike conduct and inappropriate bench decorum.

The officiating crew from the game will be suspended for an upcoming game and members of the crew may not be given consideration for postseason bowl game assignments.

Indians combined no-hitter named MILB Game of the Year

Minor League Baseball announced that the Spokane Indians have been awarded Game of the Year for its 11-inning combined no-hitter on Aug. 10, when Spokane topped Everett 3-0.

Fans voted between eight games, with Spokane's feat receiving 32 percent of the votes.

Led by starter Derek Thompson, a 2013 12th-round draft pick, four Indians pitchers combined to toss 11 innings of no-hit ball. Thompson had five strikeouts in five innings, then reliever Shane McCain retired nine straight batters. Adam Parks picked up the win and Luis Pollorena finished the game.

Despite dominant pitching, the Indians needed Luke Tendler's three-run homer in the top of the 11th to seal the win.
