PREP ROUNDUP: Lake City rolls, Lakeland clinches 4A IEL title

LEWISTON - The visiting Timberwolves capitalized on four first-quarter turnovers, jumping out to a 27-0 lead after the quarter en route to a win over the Bengals in the 5A Inland Empire League finale for both at Bengal Field.

No other information was immediately available.

Lake City (8-1, 3-0 5A IEL) has a first-round bye next week and will host a state 5A quarterfinal game the weekend of Nov. 7-8.

Lewiston finishes 1-8, 0-3.

MOSCOW - The Hawks (7-2, 2-0 4A Inland Empire League) wrapped up the league title and a first-round bye in the playoffs with the victory over the Bears (2-7, 0-2).

Lakeland will host a quarterfinal playoff game in two weeks.

SPIRIT LAKE - The host Tigers piled up 650 total yards - 521 on the ground - in beating the Badgers to wrap up another perfect Intermountain League season.

Timberlake (7-1, 3-0 IML) will host Payette (2-6), the fourth-place team from the Snake River Valley Conference next week in the first round of the state 3A playoffs. IML runner-up Kellogg (2-6) will host Homedale (5-3).

Dan Buck rushed for 177 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries for Timberlake. Brock Herbert rushed for 99 yards and two scores on five carries, Brandon Housladen 98 yards and a TD on four carries, Gage Wells 95 yards and a score on seven carries.

Bonners Ferry finished 1-7, 0-3.

ST. MARIES - The host Lumberjacks were done in by six turnovers in a Central Idaho League loss to the Maniacs.

"It was just a heartbreaker for us," St. Maries coach Craig Tefft said. "We were in a position to win, and didn't make enough plays. The turnovers really ended up costing us."

St. Maries (5-3, 0-2 CIL) will travel to New Plymouth next Saturday to open the state 2A playoffs. Orofino (7-1, 2-0) will host its playoff opener.

HARRISON FLATS - Sophomore Hunter Whipple threw three touchdown passes and ran for two more as the Warriors beat the visiting Tigers in White Star League play for their first victory of the season, in their season finale.

"It's a good feeling to close out on a win, with the season we had," said Kootenai coach Doug Napierala, whose team finished 1-7, 1-6 in the WSL. "Going through a rebuild, you're going to take some lumps. We battled some adversity, and hopefully this will be a springboard for next season."

Sheldon Trogden threw a pair of touchdown passes fo TJ Placencio, and Placencio threw a TD pass to Trogden, for Mullan (1-6, 0-6), which wraps up its season next Friday at home vs. Lewis County.

PLUMMER - The Knights committed four turnovers, two of which led to touchdowns by the Mustangs, in a season-ending White Star League loss.

Joseph Mitchell had eight carries for 44 yards for Lakeside (4-5, 4-3 WSL). Quarterback Bryar Sanchez was 3 for 7 for 36 yards against Deary (6-0, 6-2).

"We just could not score (Friday)," Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. "We had turnovers and penalties and little miscues that cost tonight. We played defensively, we just constantly gave them a short field."

COEUR d'ALENE - Freshman Cole Curtis won the 200-yard freestyle and 500 freestyle races for the Coeur d'Alene Vikings in a dual with Lake City, Post Falls and Wallace at the Kroc Center.

Nicole Rozier won the 100 freestyle, breaststroke and was part of winning relays in the 200 medley relay for Coeur d'Alene.

The district championships will be held Nov. 1 starting at noon at the Kroc Center.
