Timberlake topples Lakeland in opener

RATHDRUM - Keelie Lawler scored 20 points to lead the 3A Timberlake Tigers past the 4A Lakeland Hawks 59-18 in the nonleague opener for both schools on Friday at Hawk Court.

"Timberlake's a good team, a really good team," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said of the Tigers, state 3A runners-up last season. "And they seemed to be in January form and we're looking to build off a game where we struggled."

Allison Kirby scored 15 points for Timberlake, which travels to Lakeside tonight.

Savannah Pruitt had five points and Kaidan Kelsey had four points and nine rebounds for Lakeland, which hosts Lake City on Tuesday.

KELLOGG - Kelsey Auer had 26 points, 18 rebounds and four blocked shots, leading the Lumberjacks past the Miners in the opening round of the Silver Valley tournament at Andrews Gymnasium.

"It was a good start for us," St. Maries coach Jay Sines said. "Our girls came out and played pretty well. We've still got some work to do on the defensive end, but I thought we hit the boards well offensively with 20 offensive rebounds, so I'm pleased with that."

Catherine Flach had six points and seven rebounds, Alexis Cordell six assists for St. Maries, which faces tournament host Kellogg in the championship game today at 3:30 p.m.

Maryssa Hogamier scored eight points for Wallace, which faces Mullan in the consolation game today at 2 p.m.
