Cd'A school board workshop Monday

| May 15, 2014 2:40 PM

School district trustees in Coeur d'Alene will host a workshop on the public school system's facility use fee structure Monday at 5 p.m. at Woodland Middle School. All known community user groups of the district's fields and indoor facilities have been contacted and encouraged to attend.

The workshop meeting will be devoted to gathering information from groups who use the district's facilities both for specific seasonal periods and intermittently. Organizations have been asked to select a single representative to “sit at the workshop table” and participate in discussions with the trustees. Each organization's representative will be given 5-6 minutes to present a summary of the group's thoughts, concerns and ideas. Time for questions and dialogue with the school board will also be part of the workshop's agenda.

Individual users or community members interested in the discussion are also invited to attend.

According to a school district media release announcing the workshop, the district's goal, as it has evaluated the facility use fee structure over the past several years, is to more closely offset the maintenance costs associated with community usage of facilities and fields while keeping community usage affordable.

Idaho Code requires that school district trustees must hold a public hearing if their board considers increasing fees more than 5 percent. The Coeur d’Alene school board has yet to decide whether to increase usage fees.
