RATHDRUM - Dylan Piva struck out seven over seven innings as the Lakeland Hawks beat the Moscow Bears 12-3 in a semifinal game in the 4A Region 1 tournament on Tuesday at Gorton Field.

Lakeland (13-7) will face the winner of Thursday's loser-out game between Sandpoint (2-15) and Moscow (8-13) on Saturday at noon in the regional title game. Earlier Tuesday, Moscow defeated Sandpoint 7-4.

Kris Jackson had four RBIs and three hits for Lakeland.

"My kids showed up to play the game the way it was deserved to be played," Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. "It was probably one of the best outings I've seen in a high school baseball game where all three phases (pitching, defense and offense) dominated. Dylan Piva pitched a heck of a ballgame. He had great command of all three of his pitches, which kept Moscow off balance most of the game."

Glenn Gosse led off the game with a home run for Moscow.

KELLOGG - In a makeup of a rained-out Intermountain League game, Bryce Johnson threw a one-hit shutout as the Tigers beat the Diggers at Teeters Field.

"Timberlake hit the ball pretty well in the early innings," Kellogg-Wallace coach Paul Elston said. "We didn't do much, we didn't get a lot of guys on base. They showed some class, it could've gotten out of control really quickly. They capitalized on our mistakes."

Austin Allen scored three runs and hit a leadoff triple in the second inning for Timberlake (13-5, 9-0 IML). Jesse Howard had a two-run double in the fifth. Hunter Tonkin was 2 for 2 with a double and scored three runs.

Kellogg-Wallace (1-12, 0-9) plays at Timberlake on Thursday in the first round of the 3A District 1 tournament.

SPIRIT LAKE - Katie Malloy went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, leading the top-seeded Tigers past the fourth-seeded Badgers in the opening round of the 3A District 1 tournament at Timberlake High.

Timberlake (11-9) will face second-seeded Priest River (12-4) in the championship game today at 5 p.m. Priest River defeated third-seeded Kellogg in the other first-round game.

Matraca Rocheleau and Olyvia Owen had two RBIs each and Brittany Hibdon struck out three for Timberlake against Bonners Ferry.

"I thought we did a good job of getting some clutch hits," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "But the most important thing tonight was playing error-free defense. Brittany threw really well, with a lot of strikes and we played good defense behind her."

Bonners Ferry will play Kellogg (4-12) in a loser-out game today at 3 p.m. at Timberlake High.

MOSCOW - Lakeland beat Sandpoint in all four meetings in 4A Inland Empire League play, but that mattered little in the first round of the 4A Region 1 tournament at Ghormley Park.

Makayla Sundquist hit a three-run triple and third-seeded Sandpoint overcame a 6-0 deficit to beat the second-seeded Hawks in five innings.

Sandpoint later lost 11-1 in five innings to top-seeded Moscow.

But by beating Lakeland earlier in the day, Sandpoint (4-17) stole the seed from the Hawks, and will host Lakeland (9-13) on Thursday at 4 p.m. in a loser-out game at Sandpoint Middle School. That winner will have to win twice at Moscow (15-8) on Saturday in the regional championship, beginning at noon.
