ELECTION: One goal for everybody

| May 7, 2014 9:00 PM

Idaho has the lowest minimum wage and our students score the lowest on standardized tests nationwide. What’s got me wondering is why people don’t recognize a change is in order? Seriously in order. How long are we going to lay back and trust our state to do the right thing for the people since they haven’t in 25 years? Our level of education for K-12 is deplorable, as is Idaho’s minimum wage. I’ve connected the dots between education and minimum wage jobs.

We’ve been passive too long as we’ve watched these important issues falter, our values destroyed, like a cancer. Our dedicated teachers need to possess the skills allowing them to reach students, all students, even those doing poorly. They should demand further training. Those unable to accomplish stimulating student learning should find another profession. School is for teaching students, not bringing home a paycheck. That happens if the job is well done. In private industry an employee unable to “cut the mustard” is dismissed from the job.

Now is our chance to make a change for the better. Register to vote, then vote, not for the party necessarily, but for improving our sad state of affairs.
