| May 2, 2014 12:09 PM

Arthur "Art" G. Turner passed away on April 27, 2014, at home with family members by his side. He was 89.

Art was born to William and Helen Turner on April 26, 1925, in De Smet, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm there until his family moved to Poulsbo, Wash., in 1936.

On January 5, Art married Betty Johnson in Douglas, Ariz., as a surprise to himself at the urging of his sister, Teri.

Art was a man of many talents. He worked at the Bremerton Naval Station as an electrician. In 1951, Art and Betty moved to the Wolf Lodge area near Coeur d'Alene to work on Betty's family farm. During that time, Art drove school bus for 10 years and worked in dry walling for a few years. He retired in 1986 after working for the state highway department for 20 years.

Art and Betty moved to Hayden Lake in 1992, where they resided until Betty's death in April 2000. In 2008, Art moved next door to live with his son's family in Hayden, until his death.

Art led a fulfilling and active life. His many enjoyments included bowling, golf, playing poker, following horse racing, playing pool, hunting, fishing, camping and socializing with his buddies. This year was his 15th year of pulling his trailer down south to Arizona as a snow bird. He never stopped moving right up to his death.

Art was preceded in death by his wife, Betty. He is survived by his daughter, Judi Kunkel (Charlie); son, Steve Turner (Diane); grandchildren: Sean (Dawn) Harflinger, Tamara (Matt) Brown, Ian (Whitney) Turner, Grant (Ashley) Turner, Brittany (Jay) Pospisil and Tiffany Kunkel; eight great grandchildren; sister, Muriel Crawford; long time friend, Dick Hirst; and the many friends he traveled life with.

There will be a potluck celebration of Art's life at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at the Hayden Eagles, 1520 W. Wyoming Ave., Hayden. Please come and share your adventures with Art and bring a favorite dish for all to enjoy. We all have many treasures of our Art and we want to send him off with our love and laughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835. Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
