Intermax and Thompson Communications merge

| May 1, 2014 9:00 PM

Intermax Networks announced Wednesday that it is merging with Thompson Communications of Coeur d'Alene.

Thompson Communications is one of the most successful suppliers of independent business equipment in its markets, states a press release.

Intermax, based in Coeur d'Alene, has developed digital voice services using the Internet rather than traditional copper wires. Intermax has a redundant electronic phone switch, enabling virtual PBX services in the region.

The combination of TCI and Intermax will give business customers an extensive menu of phone and data services.

"Tad Thompson built the strongest independent phone solution provider in the region, and their company has a stellar reputation for integrity, service and quality products," said Mike Kennedy, president of Intermax. "We are pleased to add their team to ours to extend our product range for not only the best, but the most cost-effective data and voice solutions in North Idaho and the Inland Northwest."

All of Thompson Communications' staff members are joining the Intermax team. Tad Thompson will serve as vice president and general manager of the combined phone product lines to become the Intermax Voice Division.

"A big part of this transition is that I wanted a locally owned partner to help us manage our growth and provide additional services to our customers," Tad Thompson said. "Not only are we retaining all of our employees in their current roles, we will be expanding and growing the Intermax Voice Division considerably in the upcoming years."

The last several years have brought about massive technology changes and innovation in the telecom industry. Intermax Networks is expanding its extensive fiber network in North Idaho and offers Internet bandwidth, voice, data, transport, and other telecom products on both fiber and private microwave networks that are redundant and path diverse.

"We are assembling the most capable voice and data solution team in our region," Kennedy said. "This gives our customers the advantages of the best technology and the comfort of local support people. We are North Idaho-owned-and-operated, and our decisions are all made here."
