Explosive device found

COEUR d'ALENE - Law enforcement personnel shut down a block of Lakeshore Drive on Monday afternoon, after a homeowner reported finding a suspicious explosive device while doing beach cleanup.

Officers on scene told The Press the device was approximately 5 inches long and suspected to be a pipe bomb. According to Coeur d'Alene Police Department Sgt. Christie Wood, none of the homes in the area were at risk in the event that the device exploded.

At 5:30 p.m., officers were awaiting the arrival of the Spokane Bomb Squad to properly dispose of the explosive.
