HYDROS: Burned the volunteers

| March 21, 2014 9:00 PM

In response to “The Race is on,” well, I wish you luck! Those parties involved might want to get their money up front in cash. What I can’t figure out is how Mr. Miller had plenty of cash to travel all over the country attending hydro races all summer, and missed many of the meetings of the volunteers who worked hard for no money to satisfy his ego!

I was on boat patrol for two days and was told to keep the public away from the viewing area. Most all folks in their boats were well away from the log boom and had every right to be on the lake. The lake, as we told all the high rollers back during the recall days, belongs to us all, and if Mr. Miller thinks he got shortchanged by the public he is mistaken.

For one thing, he is not an organizer or a promoter, he is like all the high rollers in the Coeur d’Alene area: They all want to feather their nest at our expense. No, the only straight shooter last year was Ron McIntire, who gave us all free lunches. Now there is a first-class gentleman. Why he wants to be involved again this year is puzzling.

The good old days of hydro racing are gone, in my opinion. If it hasn’t got a Rolls or an Allison it’s not a Hydro.
