Garry Honodel, 64

| March 21, 2014 10:01 AM

Garry Honodel passed away suddenly and peacefully on March 2, 2014.

Garry was born on February 17, 1950, to Alyce and John Honodel, at Lake City Memorial Hospital in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He lived his entire life in Coeur d'Alene.

Garry always claimed to have been born with mechanical abilities. He worked as a machinist for many years, spending a number of years at Bunker Hill.

Garry's hobbies included biking, motorcycling, and car and monster truck shows with his friend, Don Hesseltine, whom he had known for many years.

Garry was always willing to help neighbors, friends, and even strangers. He could often be seen talking over the fence with a neighbor, or picking up around the neighborhood. Garry was affectionately known in the neighborhood as the "Tin Can Alley Man." His neighbors, Matt and Jen, Padma and Tom, and Queen will miss him dearly. You always felt safe knowing that Garry had an eye on the block. He also had a huge heart, and loved animals - especially dogs. Garry welcomed new neighbors, Jeff and Jenee, and their dog, Tukumi, who he gave hot dogs to every morning.

If you ever needed anything fixed, or needed a tool, Garry was always there to help. He spent the last years working on small engines. Garry eagerly shared his knowledge with his younger, good friend, Casey Brown. The two could be seen working, almost daily, on projects in Garry's shop or running errands in Garry's old pickup. Casey loved spending time with Garry, and misses him dearly. Casey honors Garry daily with memories and stories.

Garry was preceded in death by his father, John Honodel; his mother, Alyce Carlson; and his stepfather, Runeson Carlson. On October 22, 2013, Garry lost his close friend Lee Phillips.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Please call Casey at (208) 667-5790 for information or to share a story, and please visit Garry's online memorial at www.englishfuneralchapel.com.

Casey wants everyone to know that Garry was loved. He will be missed, but no longer has hip pain and can drink all the Gatorade he wants.
