STATE: To-do list uninspiring

| March 9, 2014 9:00 PM

I received an email from Sen. John Goedde recently; I’m sure a lot of residents of Idaho received the same thing. It started by saying the senators are working hard. There was quite a list, I will highlight a few that caught my eye:

They want to make “Idaho Day” a holiday. It would not be a paid holiday and government offices would remain open; a day to highlight Idaho’s history and heritage. Don’t we get that in this paper on a regular basis already?

Another bill is to increase speed limits on some of our interstates and state highways. Of course, there has to be a study. How long, and how much money will be needed for that?

Making the Idaho Giant Salamander the state’s amphibian. Why and how much will that cost? If the government is behind it, watch out.

Going up and down that list at least twice I did not see anything about jobs. Nothing about getting good size companies here that would pay decent wages. We have enough fast-food places. Saw nothing about bettering education, and I’m saying Common Core is not the answer. Common Core is just more government in our lives. What the government can’t find out about your family they’ll use Common Core to get it through your children.

Our tax dollars are paying these people in Boise to make “Idaho Day,” increase speed limits in certain areas and making the Idaho Giant Salamander the state’s amphibian.
