Jesse Eugene “Gene” Kimm passed away on May 19, 2014. He will be remembered as a loving father, proud grandpa, wonderful little brother, fun uncle, and a compassionate friend and neighbor.

Jesse was born in Spokane, Wash., on May 4, 1937. He graduated from Washington State College, where he was a member of the Pistol Club, with a degree in Police Science and Administration. Jesse served his country in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence, and was based in Oahu, Hawaii. While serving, he earned Marksman (Rifle M-1) and Expert (Pistol .38) accolades.

In 1963, Jesse moved to Phoenix, Ariz., and joined the City of Phoenix Police Department as the 1000th officer hired. He obtained his Master of Arts degree in Education at Arizona State University, and taught social studies at Desert Sands Junior High in Phoenix, Ariz.

After retiring, Jesse moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He loved to fish, camp, shoot, and dance, and was known for his good humor, thoughtfulness, and optimism.

When they think of him, Jesse’s daughters remember eating hotcakes, dancing to “Puff the Magic Dragon,” having picnics at the Hassayampa River with Jesse’s special macaroni salad, and talking to him for hours on end.

Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Kimm, who passed away on January 13, 2010. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia and Leonard Gorski, and Sandra and Vincent Creta; grandchildren, Olivia and Justin Creta; big brother and sister-in-law, John and Lila Kimm; nephews: Ed Kimm, and Steve Kimm and family; and many neighbors and friends who thought of him, and treated him, like family.

Jesse did not wish for a funeral service. There will be a celebration of his life at 4 p.m., Sunday, June 22, in Coeur d’Alene. For more information, contact the family.
