Mine officials deny agency's allegation

Sunshine Silver Mines Corporation is disputing some information from a Mine Safety and Health Administration spokesperson about Monday's accident that killed 36-year-old Nick Rounds.

In a press release Wednesday, Sunshine Mines officials said a skip that Rounds had been standing on was not moved prior to an "all clear" from the work crew. That's counter to what a MSHA press release Tuesday said. That release said the skip moved before Rounds was clear, and that he was then caught between the skip and the Jewel shaft. Rounds' co-worker, who was also on the skip, was not injured.

MSHA is investigating. A report is expected in three to six months.
