Faye Rosemary Prewitt Kwapien

| June 2, 2014 2:38 PM

Faye Rosemary Kwapien, 81, reached out and took the hand of her beloved mother on May 31, 2014, to walk with her in the Lord's celestial kingdom.

Faye was born October 10, 1932, to William and Neta Prewitt in Walla Walla, Wash., and was the eighth child in a family of nine. Her father worked for the Union Pacific railroad until his death, and her mother was a school teacher who was very devoted to her profession and impacted many students in the Washington state area. Faye went to Columbia High School in Wallula, Wash., and attended Upper Columbia Academy.

Faye's passion was cooking, and earned her the title of "Gourmet Cook." Her treasure of cookbooks opened the horizon to a variety of various cooking styles that she mastered over the years. Her famous New York Cheesecake recipe followed her wherever she ventured, and she modified and perfected it over the years. Many sought to get the "secret" recipe.

It was divine intervention covering 3000 miles that brought her to marry Theodore Kwapien in Connecticut in 1976, where she lived until 1980. She and her husband moved to Washington state to be closer to her ailing mother. In Seattle, Wash., Faye worked for the Honeywell corporation as a Communication Coordinator until her retirement in 1992. She was active in many social activities and devoted her time to helping those in need.

Faye served as chairman of the Arts and Crafts Fair during her retirement years and was admired by all those who came into contact with her. She was a devoted Seventh Day Adventist her entire life, and she endorsed the Ten Commandments that served as her guiding light down that path of life and brought her close to the Lord.

Faye had four children - three daughters and one son. Two of her daughters were born in Germany. Her oldest daughter, Sandra Gifford, is a registered nurse in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Her second daughter, Valerie Bright, is an LPN in Sitka, Alaska. Her youngest daughter, Kim Osberg, is a CNA in Redmond, Wash. Her son, Jay Llewellyn, is a PTA and resides in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, William and Neta Prewitt; brothers: Rayburn Prewitt, Marion Prewitt, and Glenn Prewitt; and sisters: Lafern Bunch, Marjorie Curry and June Ford. Faye is survived by her brothers: Dr. Vern Prewitt, of Phoenix, Ariz., Eugene Prewitt, of Sitka, Alaska, and sister, Neva Phelps, of Richland, Wash.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, June 5. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, June 6. Both will be at English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. Fourth St., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Burial will take place at the Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens. Memorials in Faye's honor may be made to the Hospice House, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, Idaho, 83835.
