Johnson goes 2 for 2 in

Double-A All-Star Game

ALTOONA, Pa. - Kyle Johnson, who played at Lake City High and Washington State, went 2 for 2 with two singles in his two plate appearances in the East's 5-2 lost to the West in the Double-A All-Star Game at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Johnson, who was selected via a fan vote, started in centerfield and was replaced in the sixth inning.

For Binghamton (N.Y.), Johnson is batting .281 with four home runs and 36 RBIs in 71 games.

Hatton named to

NJCAA team

for Canadian Open

Kylene Hatton, an outfielder from North Idaho College, has been named to the NJCAA national team that is competing in the 20th Canadian Open fastpitch international competition, which runs through Monday in Surrey, British Columbia.

Players selected are all graduating sophomores that maintained at least a 2.5 grade-point average.

Zak!Charity Open slated

for July 27-28 in Spokane

SPOKANE - The annual Zak!Charity Open, an event to help raise money for local children's charities, is scheduled for July 27-28.

This year marks the 15 anniversary of the Open.

The event opens on July 27 with the "Summer Celebration" Dinner and Auction at Northern Quest Resort and Casino. Festivities include the traditional football toss with Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien, a silent auction, and a live auction.

On July 28, the event continues with simultaneous golf tournaments at the Spokane Country Club and Manito Golf and Country Club. The tournaments will also include a barbecue lunch and buffet dinner and awards ceremony following the final round.

Proceeds from the two-day event will benefit the Rypien Foundation and Boys and Girls Clubs of Spokane County.

Alyssa Charlston to continue

hoops career in Luxembourg

MOSCOW - Former Idaho women's basketball standout Alyssa Charlston will continue her career in Europe after signing her first professional contract with the Amicale Steinsel, located in Steinsel, Luxembourg.

"I am really excited to continue my basketball career at the professional level while getting to explore Europe," Charlston said. "I'm so grateful to my coaches, teammates and entire Idaho basketball family for pushing me so I could get this opportunity."

Amicale Steinsel finished the 2013-14 season sixth in the Luxembourg Total League. The roster is composed of mostly Luxembourgers. Each of the eight teams in the league boast two to three North American players. Charlston will join Lindsay Laur, who played at Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Canadian Katie Donovan, who played three seasons at Illinois State.

Yogi Teevens joins Cougar

PULLMAN - Washington State's Wayne Phipps, the director of cross country/track and field, announced that Yogi Teevens has joined the Cougars as an associate head coach, overseeing the sprinters and horizontal jumpers.

Teevens joins previously announced coaching staff members Julie Taylor (associate head coach), and assistant coaches Matthew McGee and Allix Potratz-Lee.

Teevens brings 25 years of coaching experience to Pullman, including stints at Utah State, Idaho and Tulane.

She comes to Pullman after four years at Utah State, where she was an assistant coach for sprints, horizontal jumps and relays, as well as the recruiting coordinator. With the Aggies, Teevens mentored 28 competitors to Mountain West Conference titles, 118 student-athletes to the all-conference first team, 28 participants to the NCAA West Region Preliminary Rounds, four to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, and saw eight school records broken.
