Free workshops instruct how to do business with government

Learn basic guidelines for doing business with the government at three free workshops planned in North Idaho.

The workshops are:

* Thursday, Jan. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Idaho Department of Labor in Post Falls, 600 N. Thornton St.;

* Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the IDOL in Bonners Ferry, 6541 Main St.;

* Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the DOL in Sandpoint, 2101 W. Pine St.

The program will feature presenters from the Idaho Transportation Department, the Idaho Department of Commerce, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the National Park Service and Fairchild Air Force Base.

Participants will get an overview on bidding with the State of Idaho, requirements for bidding as a federal contractor, how business certifications can be advantageous and available services such as free bid-matching.

Other topics to be covered include: How to learn about government contracts and how to compete for them, the difference between state and federal contracting, understanding the U.S. Department of Transportation's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and where to go for assistance.
