New library series set

COEUR d'ALENE - One of Europe's most dramatic and scenic geological features will be the subject of a program at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library as a new series of "Novel Destinations," begins Jan. 16 at 7 p.m.

"A Tour of Mont Blanc," will be presented by Tony and Mary Berns from their visit to the region straddling the borders of France, Italy, and Switzerland. The travelogue, sponsored by the Library Foundation, will be shown on the big screen in the Community Room at the library.

"The Mont Blanc massif offers some of the most outstanding mountain scenery on earth," said Tony Berns. "The Tour du Mont Blanc is a 105-mile circuitous journey through the snow-peaked mountains of the Alps. With a total elevation gain and loss of 32,000 feet, the trail passes through 11 valleys and mountain passes in three countries."

"Sounds daunting, but very doable and extremely rewarding for all ages," he said. "It offers stunning scenery, challenging hiking, interesting folks from around the world, and across the board lodging and food experiences."

The free "Novel Destinations" programs were created by the Library Foundation to give people in the community an opportunity to share their travel stories and photos.
