FOOD BANK: A can-do service

| January 3, 2014 8:00 PM

The paper got it wrong, the expired cans are not thrown out. They are sorted and put into an expired bin. Those cans are then put on a shelf for people to take home and use.

How do I know this? I am one of the volunteers who actually puts these expired cans on a shelf at this food bank, and was there while the Boy Scouts were there doing their good deed.

All those expired cans you were complaining about — when I left at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31, the expired bin was empty, given to the needy people who gladly took them home.

I encourage anyone to come down, volunteer and see what really happens.
