SPIRIT LAKE - Timberlake held Kellogg to three field goals over the final three quarters en route to a 50-23 victory in the second-place game of the 3A District 1 tournament Thursday night at Timberlake High.

Timberlake (15-8) will play Kimberly (9-15), the District 4 runner-up, on Saturday at 2 p.m. PST in McCall in a state play-in game.

Kellogg finished 13-8.

Kellogg hit five field goals in jumping out to a 12-7 lead after one quarter.

"They started out in a triangle-and-two on us, and we had a rough shooting quarter (2 for 13)," Timberlake coach Matt Miller said. "After that we picked up the defense, and they only had three field goals the rest of the game."

Keelie Lawler scored 18 points and Jessica Norlander had 10 of her 14 points in the second half for Timberlake, which the night before led Priest River by seven points entering the fourth quarter of the district title game, only to see the Spartans rally for a six-point victory.

"That was a tough loss; I was real interested to see how the kids handled it," Miller said.

Andee Wendt led Kellogg with six points.

"We just didn't come ready to play," said Lakeside coach Jay Sines, whose team shot 16 of 69 from the floor. "Charter, I thought they played their best game of the season (of the four) against us, hustling, getting loose balls."
