SHOLEH: Let's learn together
Several years ago when I had just moved into Coeur d’Alene, Sholeh Patrick was writing a series of columns on the major world religions, which I very much appreciated. She has continued writing about diverse cultural, religious and historical subjects and I look forward to her columns.
Whether Sholeh is explaining grammatical difficulties in our beautiful English language, telling us how bills are introduced and processed through the legislature, or introducing us to new perspectives on cultural events, she never fails to educate. In our country we can choose to agree or disagree with a columnist’s viewpoints but the fact that she is free to share them and we are free to learn from her (or not) is one of our greatest blessings.
Media’s job is to report happenings and to impart information. But to step beyond and educate requires courage for then, one can become a target for angry disagreement and verbal attack rather than civil, thought-provoking discourse. Much can be gained by learning from each other. Thank you again, Sholeh Patrick.
