Construction may begin in February on a new strip mall in the northwest corner of Mullan Avenue and Cecil Road on the east side of Post Falls. Tentatively called the Mullan & Cecil Retail Complex, the $3 million project will comprise two multi-tenant buildings of 8,000 and 9,000 square feet north of the Walmart complex.

Depending on the spaces requested, about 14 tenants are possible with about 40 percent already interested, according to principle owner Paul Bielec of Coldwell Banker Commercial Schneidmiller Realty. A few of the spaces can have drive-throughs, and a corner pad can be build-to-suit.

Minimum spaces will be 900 square feet in the plan designed by Eric Hedlund Design of Coeur d'Alene. Occupancy could begin in June. Contact Coldwell Banker at 765-4300 or online at www.cbcsr.com.

Meals at Dueling Irons

Breakfast and lunch with senior, kid, split-plate and take-out options are offered at Dueling Irons Restaurant. Named for competing cookware or the gun culture, the "upscale but affordable" eatery opened in late November at 1780 E. Schneidmiller Ave., between East Seltice Way and Interstate 90 (across from the car-dealer string).

With seating for 120 customers in many booths, a few tables and at the counter, Dueling Irons has an attractive classical diner decor. Situated among several eateries, the place previously was the Side Street Place.

Owner Thomas Didra has 10 years of restaurant experience and graduated from the Culinary Arts Institute of Seattle. Assistant Shelly Haller has 25 years experience as a server in this area.

The homemade meals include many breakfast options and lunch sandwiches and burgers with fries, red potato salad or house salad.

There are also special soups, salads and crepes.

Hours are 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. Phone 262-9716. Check "duelingironsrestaurant" on Facebook.

Now for the Tidbits

- A $20 million building permit was issued for the 16-story One Lakeside condominium complex at 201 N. First St. (at Lakeside Avenue). The apartment building there now is coming down with promotion signs at the corners.

- Another building permit is for a major remodel of the Dairy Queen at 305 E. Appleway.

- Don't write like this, it's called a comma splice. Fix it one of four ways. Use a semi-colon. Use a period to make two sentences. Make a complex sentence by adding "and." Use a connector such as "because" instead of the comma.
