THANKS: Give it every day

| December 3, 2014 10:39 PM

With Christmas and Easter being religious in nature and grounded in a Judeo Christian heritage, which was the practice of our founders, non-belief and the commercial benefit have hijacked the original intent behind why we celebrate these very American holidays. We have replaced the historical birth, death and resurrection of Jesus with bunnies and an airborne team of reindeer hauling a fat man in a red suit, who also squeezes down chimneys. It is becoming the norm in our country to interpret our founders as we please, therefore, it is not difficult then to image a holiday like Independence Day morphing into something not intended — like those who want to give up our national autonomy to a one world order. All you have to do is quit teaching the history. It doesn’t take much for us to celebrate a day off work.

You don’t have to be Judeo Christian to be thankful. Maybe that is why Thanksgiving remains intact and nationally revered. Other religions can celebrate thankfulness as well. Still others, due to this holiday’s offensive religious roots, call it happy turkey day. Others, who find no reason to be thankful, are just happy for a day off with food. Generally, apathy, or lack of belief have not racked its toll on the idea of thankfulness. But, getting back to our roots, does the following quote brandish disdain for you, or hope for this United States of America? If hope, please share your thankfulness daily.

“Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to recommend to the people of the Untied States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peacefully to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.” Oct. 3, 1789. — George Washington
