CDA 2030 vision plan released

COEUR d’ALENE — The Coeur d’Alene 2030 Visioning Project released the first version of a plan designed to guide community members in making their shared vision for the future of the Coeur d’Alene area a reality.

This “implementation plan” — based on year-long community input through public forums and workshops, surveys, opinion polls and interviews — can be found on the CDA 2030 group’s website, www.CDA2030.org, or it can be downloaded from the Web version of this story at www.cdapress.com.

The plan details a broad range of programs and projects slated to take place over the next five years.

“What is exciting about this implementation plan is that it was entirely created and will be led by involved citizens and organizations,” said Nicole Kahler, CDA 2030 project manager.

The community focused on six areas when developing the vision plan: Community and Identity; Education and Learning; Environment and Recreation; Growth and Development; Health and Safety; and Jobs and Economy.

This “living” document will include revisions and additions over time. New versions will also reflect the community’s progress in implementing its vision.

CDA 2030 promotes collaboration and partnerships between business, government, civic groups and the community at large.

“The organization will take a proactive approach to assist established community partners in developing work plans for 178 action items designed to achieve the community’s vision,” a press release states.

The Coeur d’Alene City Council in June approved a resolution to adopt the vision statement, strategies and implementation plan.

“Our project management team is encouraged by the success of the project and plans to continue to act as a neutral voice for the greater Coeur d’Alene community,” Kahler said.

In project’s second year, CDA 2030 will apply for nonprofit status.

“The CDA 2030 Vision Project underscores the fact that the customers of education, our community, demand that we improve practical education and provide more diverse higher education opportunities,” wrote Charles Buck, a member of the project management team and associate vice president and center executive officer of the University of Idaho, North Idaho.

“This community input is an invaluable resource that will help our local educational institutions thrive.”
