PEDESTRIAN: Making Cd'A walk-friendly

| August 22, 2014 9:00 PM

The City of Coeur d’Alene Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory Committee recently received a letter from a resident who expressed concerns about the developing problem and the several near-misses she had observed between motorists and pedestrians. She brought up Idaho law that states: “When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way, slowing down or stopping, if need be, to yield to a pedestrian crossing the highway within a crosswalk.” (49-702). She wondered if there was a way the city could promote more awareness of this statute and encourage compliance.

The committee discussed possible signage, increased enforcement, and a few other ideas, but we are anxious to hear from residents with suggestions that would help Coeur d’Alene become a more walk-friendly community. Please forward your thoughts to parks@cdaid.org.

We look forward to a dialogue! about the pedestrian/vehicle situation.
