* FOOTBALL

Lake City High freshman football begins Monday, Aug. 18. Players are to report at 7:30 a.m. to the gym-locker room area with cleats.

Each player is required to have a current physical, proof of insurance, and school medical emergency form. Every athlete is required to have these on file before participating. Paperwork can be submitted at practice.

* YOUTH BASEBALL

Coeur d'Alene residents Jayce Bailey, Blake English and Steven Petersen, members of the Spokane-based Inland Select Babe Ruth baseball team, will compete in the 14-year old and under World Series starting Friday in Ocala, Fla.

Bailey and Petersen played youth baseball in Hayden Little League, while English played in Coeur d'Alene Little League.

Inland Select won the Washington state championship, held July 17-20, in Spokane, finishing undefeated in six games and beating Moses Lake in the championship game.

They went on to win the regional tournament in Whitefish, Mont., July 31-Aug. 3, beating West Linn, Ore., in the championship game.

The team is coached by Rob Desonia of Spokane and assistant coach is Darrin Solt, also of Spokane.

Northwest Premier wraps season: After a successful 2014 campaign which saw its teams capture multiple tournament titles, Northwest Premier has announced that they will be sponsoring several new college-development teams for the 2015 season.

Tryouts for Premier's 2015 travel teams (18U, 16U and 11U) will be held in late October/early November. More information will be shared as soon as the dates are set. Until then, all players wanting to learn more about about the program or wishing to be placed on the tryout list should contact Troy Nowell at troy@premiersportscenter.org.

* REC SOCCER

The Dome Sports Facility, located at 167 W. Miles Avenue in Hayden, is having a free parks and recreation coaches clinic Wednesday, Aug. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m.

The clinic will be conducted by Dave Simeone with the PSPL organization. He earned his "A" license and National Youth License from US Soccer and the National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Simeone has served as a full time national staff coach with the US women's team between 1999 to 2004, dividing time between youth and senior national teams, the national coaching schools and implementing club/ODP scouting and player development.

* SELECT SOCCER

Academy Under-14: The Academy under-14 girls team rallied from 1 win, 1 tie and two losses to win their division of the Northwest Cup in Spokane last weekend. In the semifinal game, Lauren Hoffeld scored unassisted off a corner kick. In the championship game, Janessa Ingram scored in extra time on a pass from Isabella McAfee. Marlee Lambert and Preslee Allen combined for two shutouts, while Lambert earned the shutout in the championship game.

Sting U-10 (Bayern Munich) boys: The Coeur d'Alene under-10 boys (Bayern Munich) played in the Northwest Cup tournament over the weekend, finishing second in the silver bracket.

Academy U-11 Idaho boys: The Academy under-11 boys placed second in the Northwest Cup tournament last weekend in Spokane, winning three games against the Shadow, Pacific and Shadow Elite. They also tied the Crossfire and lost 3-2 in the championship game to the Crossfire. Goals scorers from the weekend are: Garrett Heuett, Mason Hancock (8), Trenton Fulkerson (3), Brendon Wright (4) and Kobe Miller (2).

Sting U-14 Galaxy: The Sting under-14 girls played in the Les Schwab Northwest Cup, placing third in the gold bracket. The first game the team matched up with SoccerEdge Academy, ending with a 3-0 win. The next game against Spokane Shadow was another win 4-0. The next was against the Spokane Scotties, winning 2-0. In the semifinals, the Sting lost 2-1 to the Spokane Foxes. Chloe Teets had three goals and two assists, Sydnee Rud 1 goal and two assists, Maddie Morris 1 goal and 1 assist, Erika Skindlov 1 goal, 1 assist and Katie Venera, Bridget Rieken, Lexi Medina and Izzy Lehosit all had 1 goal. Goalkeepers Jordan Nowoj and Emma Bartlett had three games with shutouts.

Sting Valencia: The Coeur d'Alene Sting Premier U-13 Valencia Boys played in the Les Schwab Northwest Cup soccer tournament and took first place in the gold/silver division. Their first game was against Spokane Shadow Windham. They won this game 3-1 with goals scored by Diego McClure, Drake Prohaska and Cameron Dance, with assists from Carter Gordon, Cameron Dance and Drake Prohaska. Their first game on Saturday was against Three Rivers Soccer and they won this game 9-0. Goals were scored by Cameron Dance (2), Jared Hoffman, Tristan Delbridge, Drake Prohaska (2), Sam Anderson, Tyler Shaw and Jalen Skalskiy, with assists coming from Tristan Delbridge, Cameron Dance, Carter Gordon and Tyler Shaw. The second game on Saturday was also a 9-0 win played against SSC Shadow Elite. Goals were scored by Diego McClure, Sam Anderson, Garrett Noordam (2), Jalen Skalskiy (2), Tyler Shaw, Cameron Dance, Jacob Janzen and assists were from Cameron Dance (2), Carter Gordon and Kyler Sorenson. The semifinal game on Sunday morning was played against SSC Shadow Elite where the boys won 6-1. Goals were scored by Drake Prohaska, Cameron Dance (2), Sam Anderson, Tristan Delbridge (2), and assists were from Marc McClure, Tristan Delbridge and Sam Anderson. The championship game was played against SSC Shadow Windham where the boys won 3-1. Goals were scored by Drake Prohaska (2), Diego McClure, and assists were from Carter Gordon and Cameron Dance.

Sting Liverpool: Coeur d'Alene Sting U-13 Boys Liverpool played in the Les Schwab Northwest Cup this weekend. Liverpool place third in the tournament. On Friday, August 8th, Liverpool played Three Rivers Soccer U-13, winning 3-1. Goals were scored by Cameron Calabretto, Alex Lycan and Jadyn Freeman with assists by Josh Brisendine and Ben Blakely. We had saves by Jacob Overoye (4). Coeur d'Alene Sting U-13 Boys Liverpool competed on Saturday, defeating SSC Shadow Elite B01-Royal 2-1. Goals were scored by Josh Brisendine and Alex Lycan with assists by Cameron Calabretto and Joshua Demata. We had saves by Jacob Overoye (3). Liverpool played SSC Shadow B01 Windham., losing 3-1. Our goal was scored by Josh Brisendine with an assist by Alex Lycan. Jacob Overoye had five saves for the team. The team advanced to a semifinal game, losing 4-0 on Saturday.

Sting U-11 girls Spirit Squad: The Sting U11 girls Spirit squad played in the Northwest Cup in Spokane last weekend, winning against the Spokane Foxes 5-1. Goals were scored by Amber Aittama (2) and Molly Foster (3). The girls then played the Spokane Shadow G03-Mykines squad and won 2-1. Goals were scored by Amber Aittama and Ellie Morrisroe. The next game the Spirit defeated the Spokane Shadow Elite 10-0. Goals were scored by Amber Aittama, Sophia Allen, Noel Duval, Molly Foster (2) , Holly Hudson, Ellie Morrisroe, Gabrielle Roberts, Kiersten Sawley, and Olivia Wyatt. In the first playoff round the girls beat the Spokane Shadow Go 3 - Dimmler team 1-0, on a goal scored by Holly Hudson. Molly Foster had the shutout in goal. In the championship match the Spirit lost to the XIFAG2022 team 1-0, finishing second.

* SWIMMING

A total of 35 Coeur d'Alene Area Swim Team (CAST) Crocs competed in Wenatchee in the Inland Empire Long Course (50 Meter) Swimming Championships in Wenatchee, Wash., over the weekend. CAST placed fourth amongst all teams amassing 1993 points. Competing against teams from Northern Oregon, Idaho, and Washington CAST swimmers averaged 75 percent lifetime best swims in their events despite the 100-plus degree heat.

Top 16 swimmers in preliminaries in the morning returned for the championship finals in the evening and swam with finishers in the top 8 receiving medals for their swims. Highlights of the meet included the Men's 13-14 year old 4x100 meter freestyle relay in which the Croc swimmers broke the all time record in the event by 3 seconds, finishing in a remarkable time of 4:07.99. Chang He, Cole Curtis, Jon Archer and Gabe Markowski were on this record setting relay. All four of these swimmers were in contention for high point awards in this age group. These same four boys also won the 4 x 100 medley relay

* AAU BASKETBALL

The Northwest Blazers, a team comprised of girls from Montana and Idaho, recently competed in three national tournaments, finishing with a combined record of 13-2.

The team competed in the End of the Trail Shootout in Portland, Ore., Peach State Invitational in Atlanta, Ga., and Adidas Nationals, also in Atlanta. They played against teams from all over the country and won the Peach State Invitational by beating teams from Alabama, Georgia and Ohio.

They finished third at the End of the Trail Shootout, losing to the Vegas Thunder and finished third at the Adidas Nationals by two points to Midwest Takeover from Cincinnati, Ohio.

The team is coached by Keith Denton and Sarah Randall and is sponsored by Adidas.
