Gary Scott 'Scotty' Shawver, 57

Gary Scott "Scotty" Shawver, 57, drowned on Aug. 2, 2014, in Lake Coeur d'Alene.

Scott was born in Moscow, Idaho, on Feb. 17, 1957, to Gary Shawver and Kay Lazelle Shawver. He grew up in the Northwest, graduating from Timberline High School in Pierce, Idaho, in 1974.

Scott moved to Post Falls, Idaho, in the 1980s and garnered a reputation as a talented auto body man, achieving success and recognition not only for his technical ability but for customer service and integrity. In May 2014 he opened Scott Shawver's Auto Body and RV in Post Falls with the same passion and dedication with which he approached life. He embraced hard work and the sacrifices required to achieve his goals and dreams.

Scott was an avid and fearless snowmobiler and motocross racer. He loved adventure and the outdoors, especially boating with friends. He was a generous benefactor to local organizations and inspired many with his kindness, humility and giving heart. Scott's joyful presence will be long missed by his many friends, his large family, his employees and the entire community.

Scott was preceded in death by his brother, Berkley Shawver, in 1996. He is survived by his father, Gary Shawver (Kathleen) of Mrytle, Idaho; mother Kay Olson (Swede) of Troy, Idaho; fiancee Stephanie Knox of Post Falls; sisters Tracy Christopherson (Rob) of Post Falls and Leea Olson (Rick Barker) of Lewiston, Idaho; brothers Grady Shawver (Janet Bogar) of Seattle, Wash., Shawn Shawver, Lithuania, James Jameson (Terri) of Lewiston, Ed Anderson (Connie) of Yorba Linda, Calif., and Wade Olson (Linda) of Colfax, Wash.; children by birth and of the heart, Zak Person of Spokane, Wash., Keith Sorenson (Jenna) of Post Falls, Jennifer Sorenson Barry (Nick) of Kent, Wash., and Sydney Knox of Post Falls; grandchildren Max Person, Mya Elizabeth Sorenson, Kallie Anne Sorenson and Lillian Jean Barry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
