COEUR d'ALENE - A Coeur d'Alene man allegedly admitted to three counts of felony burglary Monday after police caught him returning to the scene of the crime to look for a cell phone.

According to the Coeur d'Alene Police Department, Brandon C. Jarvis, 18, of Coeur d'Alene, was arrested after allegedly returning to Jimmy's Down the Street Restaurant where police say he was caught on a video surveillance system earlier that morning.

In fact, police said, Jarvis also attempted to break into Piggies Deli and successfully broke into All-American Burgers and Sandwiches nearby.

In a press release from CPD, at 2:30 a.m., Coeur d'Alene Police Sgt. Greg Moore was patrolling Sherman Avenue and observed a male climbing over a fence on the east side of Piggies Deli on east Sherman.

The officer said the male was wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Sgt. Moore thought the male was acting suspiciously, so he pulled into the alley in an attempt to intercept him. He was unable to locate the male but noticed a door to Piggies Deli on the north side of the building appeared to have been kicked several times.

While officers were on scene at Piggies waiting for the business owner to respond, a business alarm was activated for All-American Burgers located two blocks west of their location.

Officers responded and found a broken window on the north side of the building. They searched the building but did not find anyone inside.

According to the release, the manager arrived and showed officers video footage of a male entering the building and walking around the restaurant. The male matched the description provided by Sgt. Moore as the male he saw in the area of Piggies Deli.

At 5 a.m. Monday, officers were called to Jimmy's Down the Street, just a couple of blocks west of the other two businesses. The owner reported finding a broken window at the rear of the building.

The release said video surveillance cameras revealed a male entering the building at 4:22 a.m. The male rummaged around some items in the restaurant and then left at 5 a.m.

Police said the male matched the same physical description and clothing as the male in the video surveillance footage at All-American Burgers.

At 6:30 a.m., the manager of Jimmy's Down the Street called police to report the suspect may have returned to the restaurant to find a phone he allegedly said he lent a friend, who supposedly left it there.

The manager sent police a picture of the suspect taken from the video surveillance system. Police arrived at the scene and saw the business owner speaking with a male at the counter.

Police said the male matched the photograph from the video surveillance, and noted that he had dried blood and dirt on his hands.

Jarvis was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives. He allegedly admitted to the burglaries. Jarvis was transported to the jail and charged with three felony counts of burglary.
