Elk foundation banquet May 10

| April 26, 2014 9:00 PM

Enjoy an entertaining evening while raising money to benefit elk and other wildlife May 10 at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's fundraiser banquet and auction.

The event will take place at the Best Western Plus Coeur d'Alene Inn.

The evening begins with a cocktail social at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m., followed by a live auction for wildlife art, firearms, collectibles and more.

"Money raised at our banquet will go toward on-the-ground conservation and hunting heritage projects here in Idaho while also assisting elk and elk country across the nation," said Kyle Koski of Post Falls, who volunteers with local RMEF conservationists to host the annual event. "We promise a good time for a great cause."

This is the 25th annual banquet the foundation has hosted in Coeur d'Alene.

"In consideration of our 25th anniversary, the goal is to give away 25 firearms this year," Koski said.

Ticket prices are $70 per person, $105 per couple, and $685 for a sponsor table of eight. Life members can purchase a meal only for $35. Each single and couple ticket includes a yearly membership to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and a Bugle magazine subscription from the conservation organization.

Additionally, one BuckLite Max knife by Buck Knives - with a retail value of $39 - is included with each new or renewed membership attending the banquet.

Auctions, raffles and other games are always a popular highlight at RMEF events.

Prizes for the upcoming event include a Banquet Edition Marlin 1895 .45-70 Govt., canvas wall tent and frame; elk ivory earring set; African safari hunt; and many other rifles, pistols, home decor and hunting-related items.

Since 1984, RMEF has enhanced or conserved more than 6.3 million acres of prime habitat for elk and other wildlife. The foundation also opened or secured access to more than 667,000 acres of land for public access for hunting, fishing and other recreation.

RMEF worked to restore wild elk populations in parts of their former range such as Kentucky, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Missouri, Virginia and Arkansas.
