A long line of Spring Dash design

| April 26, 2014 9:00 PM

Coeur d'Alene High School art teacher Terri Leonard says 11th-grader Savannah Hansen is poised for a bright future.

Hansen, 17, createdthe winning T-shirt design for the 32nd annual Spring Dash, a United Way fundraiser taking place Sunday in downtown Coeur d'Alene.

Hansen's design will grace more than 2,000 T-shirts that will be given to participants who run or walk their way to the finish line.

"It's nice that she has received some recognition for her art," Leonard said.

In four semesters of art classes, Hansen's art skills have improved, the teacher said.

About a dozen of Leonard's students have won the Spring Dash T-shirt design contest through the years.

Leonard described Hansen as "so giving to other people.

"She sets her sights high while being just a plain nice person, not selfish," Leonard said.

Spring Dash sponsor Bank of America awarded Hansen a $100 check.

The Spring Dash is a qualifying race for Bloomsday's second-seed starting area.

The Tot Trot is at 9 a.m., the wheelchair division begins at 9:30 a.m., and the main race starts at 10 a.m.

With construction taking place at McEuen Park and on Front Avenue, there will be a new finish and starting line. This year the festivities will be taking place behind Coeur d'Alene City Hall, 710 E. Mullan Ave.

General registration is $20 and children younger than 10 are $5.

Registration and packet pickup is today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All proceeds will be donated to the United Way of Kootenai County.
