Post Falls ready to recycle

| April 25, 2014 9:00 PM

POST FALLS - The city of Post Falls will host recycling events on Saturday at City Hall, 408 N. Spokane St.

E-recycling runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents can bring in their old, unwanted, working or non-working electronic items and have them recycled and disposed of properly by Urban Mining Depot. Hard drive data destruction is free as part of the recycling program.

Those wanting priority hard drive data destruction can have it done on-site for $15 per unit.

TVs and computer monitors containing CRT glass can be recycled for $12 per unit, and the first one is free. Computers, laptops, telephone, e-readers, iPods, cell phones, printers, VCRs, copiers, satellite dishes, stereos and even Christmas lights will be accepted. For a complete list, visit www.postfallsidaho.org.

As a "thank you" to residents, the city will give out popcorn, recycling/garbage pick-up calendars, reusable insulated grocery bags, insulated lunch bags, water bottles and stickers for the kids. The recycling promotional items are funded by a grant from Post Falls Sanitation to reduce impact on the landfill.

In 2013 during the first e-recycling event, residents turned in 3.5 tons of electronic items. The city was recognized with a City Achievement Award from the Association of Idaho Cities for the project.

Post Falls Police will also be at City Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the National Drug Take-Back Day. As part of a free effort to reduce prescription medication in drinking water and curb prescription drug abuse, police will accept unused prescriptions and properly dispose of them.

Residents are encouraged to remove name tags or black out the name with a permanent marker, which will be available on site.

Unwanted medication can also be turned in at law enforcement agencies in Kootenai County.

St. Vincent de Paul will be at City Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to accept donations.

A free curbside pickup for Post Falls residents will also be held Saturday to assist residents with spring cleaning.

Items must be placed at the street by 6:30 am. All items are to be bagged, bundled or in the garbage cart. Items must not exceed 4 feet in length and 4 feet in width.

Furniture, tires, concrete, brick and hazardous material will not be accepted. Appliances will be picked up by appointment only by calling 457-1820. No refrigerated appliances will be accepted.
