Marcella Engberg Langer, 93

| April 7, 2014 12:50 PM

Marcella (Engberg) Langer of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014. Marcella was born December 19, 1920, in the newly completed farm house in Blackduck, Minn. She grew up on the farm with her parents: John and Della Engberg, sisters: Ruby, Doris and Lois, and brothers: Lloyd, Stanley, Alvin, and Wally.

In 1942, Marcella met Ed Langer and they were married in 1943 before Ed left to support the war effort. In 1944, their son, Bill, was born in Bemidji, Minn. After the war was over, Marcella and Ed moved to Burbank, Calif., where son Rick was born in 1948.

Besides being a wife, mother and homemaker, Marcella worked various part-time jobs at her sons' elementary school, J.C. Penney, and manufacturing companies. She also served as a den mother for cub scouts. Marcella made a great carrot cake, apple pie, and Christmas cutout cookies!

In 1980, after Ed retired from the city of Burbank, he and Marcella moved to Phelan, California. They enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, and spent several weeks visiting relatives and friends in Minnesota.

In 1994, with the passing of Ed, Marcella moved back to Burbank, and then followed son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Connie Langer, to Coeur d’Alene in 2000.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, Ed. She is survived by sons: Bill (Connie) of Coeur d’Alene, and Rick (Mary) of Burbank, Calif., grandsons: Andrew, Chris and Brad; and great-grandchildren: Jake, Brayden, Kelsey, Ava and Patrick.

Burial and celebration will be scheduled this summer in Kelliher, Minnesota. Marcella and Ed will be reunited. Please visit Marcella’s online memorial and sign her guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
